Passengers in České dráhy’s sleeper and couchette carriages will continue to be looked after for the next four years by stewards and stewardesses from the JLV company, which has been awarded the contract on the basis of an open tender procedure.

JLV will provide comprehensive customer care and services in the sleeper and couchette carriages of the national carrier during the journey, at the return stations as well as at the Prague depot. The contract includes complete preparation of the carriages before the boarding of customers, which includes, e.g., cleaning, making the beds, preparation of services, such as drinks and hygiene packages etc.

It also includes check-in and care of customers during the journey, when the staff members e.g. arrange for the compartments for sitting or lying areas, keep the carriage clean and offer refreshments. In the morning, they wake passengers up, prepare breakfast and provide other services until passengers leave the train. This means that the JLV stewards accompany the “sleeping” cars throughout the journey across Europe, with the associated costs of meal allowances or provision of rest at return stations.

Also at the return stations, the JLV staff members take care of the complete preparation of the carriage for the return journey to Prague, including making beds, cleaning and other duties. Within the framework of the contract, JLV provides also other services, such as washing bed linen and towels.

The value of the four-year contract between ČD and JLV is CZK 488 million. The price has been affected by the cumulative inflation rate over the last four years, as well as the extension of the services provided by the service company on the board of night trains.

České dráhy now operates 21 sleeper carriages and 9 couchette carriages. The company operates them on two night services from Prague to Zurich, via Linz and Innsbruck, and via Dresden and Basel, and also on train services from Prague to Krakow and Warsaw, from Prague to Poprad, Košice and Humenné, and from Prague to Bratislava and Budapest. The services are known under the brand name “ČD Night” and passengers can find detailed information on the website www.cd.cz/cdnight. Other sleeper and couchette carriage services in the territory of the Czech Republic are operated by České dráhy’s partner companies.
