ČD Public Container Terminal at Lovosice Station at the Centre of Industry and Logistics Lovosice

Based on a request for financial support from the Infrastructure Operational Programme, ČD, a.s. received a financial contribution from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for a project entitled “ČD Public Container Terminal at Lovosice Station at the Centre of Industry and Logistics Lovosice”. Drawing on the subsidy was realised on the basis of Measure 2.2 – Support for Combined Transport, the main goal of which is to reduce the negative impacts of transport on the environment.

Brief project overview:

The project’s goal is to establish a centre for combined shipping in northern Bohemia, shifting freight shipments in the region toward greater use of containerisation.

The investment makes better use of existing premises formerly used for the Ro-La project at Lovosice Station.

Use of the newly procured investment will lead to enhanced interoperability and to reductions in transport costs to and from the northern Bohemia region. The new infrastructure is intended exclusively for freight transport.

The investment is in accordance with the goals of European transport policy, and supports a partial shift of shipments from road to rail transport in northern Bohemia (reducing the number of heavy lorries), which is extraordinarily burdened by road haulage.

The European Union is contributing to the project’s realisation through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The ERDF provides contributions for reducing the differences between the levels of development and living standards in various regions, and in reducing the level of antiquatedness in the most disadvantaged areas. For this specific project, the ERDF contributed the sum of CZK 56,684 million, which represents roughly 30% of the realisation costs for the entire project. The state budget contributed the sum of CZK 22,673 million, which represents roughly 12% of the realisation costs for the entire project.

The ERDF contributed to the project through the Infrastructure Operational Programme, whose Measure 2.2 – Support for Combined Transport – is focused on supporting this type of project. This measure is administered by the EU Funds department at the Ministry of Transport as the intermediary of the Operational Programme. More information about obtaining a contribution from the Infrastructure Operational Programme, about current projects, etc., is available on www.mdcr.cz, www.env.cz, and www.strukturalni-fondy.cz.

Specific project goals:

  • Making better use of existing transport infrastructure of national and superregional significance.
  • Maintaining compliance with EU standards including other relevant parameters.
  • Improving living standards in the Czech Republic by reducing the number of shipments in the transport sector which damage the environment.
  • Reducing accident rates.
  • The project’s realisation site is Lovosice Station.
  • The project runs from 10/2006 through 11/2008.
  • The investor is České dráhy, a.s. (ČD).
  • The contractor for the construction portion is Viamont DSP a.s.
  • The supplier of machinery is KALMAR Hebefahrzeuge Handelsges.m.b.H., Austria.

Terminal operations

The terminal is operated by a ČD subsidiary, the company ČD-DUSS Terminál, a.s., which operates it according to the principle of neutral access for all customers. 20’-40’ containers, tank containers, swap bodies and semi-trailers can be transloaded at the terminal. The premises of the container depot are also available. In addition, a nearby covered warehouse offers the transloading, storage, completion, packaging and labelling of goods from containers.
