České dráhy in cooperation with the Austrian carrier ÖBB has started to deploy the most advanced long-distance ComfortJet trainsets on the Vindobona line Prague – Vienna – Graz. From 20 October, ComfortJets will run every day as trains rj 73 and rj 370. Starting from mid-December, when schedules will be updated, ComfortJets will provide a comfortable and fast connection from Prague to Klagenfurt and Villach in Carinthia.

The first train service to Austria on which České dráhy deployed the ComfortJet was today’s rj 73 Vindobona which departed Prague’s Main Station at 6:42 a.m. The ComfortJet will return to the Czech Republic as rj 370 Vindobona, which departs from Graz at 2:26 p.m., leaves Vienna at 5:10 p.m. and arrives in Prague at 9:15 p.m.

“The train connection between the Czech and Austrian capitals is one of the main international lines of České dráhy and remains very popular among passengers. Since the introduction of Railjet comfort trains in 2014, the number of passengers between Vienna and Prague has increased by 40 percent. Today we start the next stage of this connection. The new ComfortJet trains offer more than 100 seats more capacity and unrivalled comfort and services on board for all passengers," says Michal Krapinec, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of České dráhy.

From 14 December 2025, ComfortJets will start operating three times a day on the route Prague – Brno – Vienna – Graz – Klagenfurt – Villach and back. Departures from Prague’s Main Station will be at 6:37 a.m. and 2:37 p.m.; the third train will connect Berlin, Prague, Vienna and Villach and will stop in Prague at 10:36 at the Praha-Holešovice station. The journey from the Czech capital to Villach in Carinthia will take approximately 8 hours. The Vindobona to Villach will be among the fastest trains of České dráhy, and the first real Czech high-speed trains. On the new Koralmbahn high-speed line, our ComfortJets will travel at 230 km/h and also pass through the 33-kilometre-long Koralmtunnel, the fourth longest railway tunnel in Europe.

ComfortJet – the best choice for your journey

České dráhy plans to rely on ComfortJets as its main trains for long-distance interstate transport in the coming years. In addition to Austria, passengers will now be able to take them to get to Berlin, Bratislava and Budapest. From May 2026, they will also operate the new unique direct route Prague – Copenhagen.

České dráhy has ordered the delivery of a total of twenty non-traction units bearing the trade name ComfortJet from the Siemens – Škoda consortium. By the end of the year, the fleet of the national carrier will include a total of fifteen nine-car trains; the remaining five should be delivered during the spring of 2026. The final ComfortJet set has nine cars and offers 555 seats, 99 of which are in first class. Another 18 seats are located in the restaurant car. The train is approximately 237 metres long and is designed for a maximum speed of 230 km/h.

Passengers will find on board of this most modern Czech train all the 21st century services associated with rail travel, such as air-conditioning, a restaurant car, seats for wheelchair passengers and families with children, spaces for prams, bicycles and large luggage, on-board Wi-Fi network, special windows allowing easy passage of mobile phone signal, 230 V 50 Hz electrical sockets, USB ports for charging travel electronics and many other benefits and services.
