A painted picture, a sword or a clothes dryer. Passengers left even such items on the board of the trains operated by České dráhy during last year. In the whole year 2023, there were recorded altogether 18,640 items as found. A total of 9,463 items were returned to their owners thanks to the efforts exerted, and more than 4,600 items found were handed over to the local authorities of the relevant municipality in accordance with the law. České dráhy records all losses and findings on the eztraty.cz website.
Personal documents, wallets, mobile phones, keys and even hats are permanent stars among the items found. However, during the last year, the ČD train staff members have also encountered left items of a less common nature about which the passengers forgot when leaving the train. For example, a left box of champagne bottles, a ukulele, a cot, a scrub-cutter or forearm crutches were found.
As far as the total number of lost and found items is concerned, it is necessary to note that 51% were claimed by their owners. 4,612 items found were referred to the authorities of the municipalities in the territory of which the discovery occurred. The owners have 3 years by law to claim the item, after which the item found becomes the property of the municipality. More than 1,100 items also had to be destroyed, usually perishable foodstuffs.
If a passenger leaves anything on the board of a train operated by České dráhy, we recommend contacting the ČD Central Customer Service as soon as possible by calling 221 111 122. The operators can contact the train crew directly and they will try to secure the lost item. All lost and found items can then be identified clearly on the www.eztraty.cz website. The information is entered into the eztraty.cz system by the train staff, who can do so already while the train is in motion thanks to a mobile device and the corresponding application they are equipped with. If, on the other hand, you find a lost item on the board of a train, please contact the train staff who will take over the item from you and ensure that it is registered in the lost and found items register.
