Due to the installation works and trial run deployments, the operation of the 680 Pendolino electric multiple units will be temporarily restricted on the SC Pendolino Košičan services until the approval of the modern ETCS train control system. On the other hand, more Pendolino trainsets will be running between Prague and Northern Moravia, where they are to serve two pairs of the existing InterCity train services between Prague and Opava.
From Thursday 15 August 2024 currently until the end of the validity of the 2024 timetable, the 241 / 240 Košičan “Prague – Košice – Prague” trains will be operated in the EuroCity category and will be formed of modern carriages designed for the operation of high-quality trains. The classical seven-carriage air-conditioned trainset will offer passengers such services as on-board Wi-Fi network, electrical sockets for charging their travel electronics, bistro carriage, wheelchair passenger transport, as well as bicycle transport services. The timetable of the train service remains unchanged. The train will continue to operate on the entire Prague – Košice – Prague route in the operation mode of compulsory reservation.
The returning of the Pendolino train sets on the Prague – Košice train connection is expected after the full approval of the ETCS system on the 680 class units for international operation. Currently, the Slovak approval authority (The Rail Authority of the Slovak Republic) will not allow the Pendolino trainset to enter its territory in the ETCS test operation mode, and the unit must be temporarily replaced by another vehicle type. The Pendolino train sets will return to Slovakia once the installation, testing and approval of the ETCS system on all the units have been completed.
More Pendolino trainsets from Prague to Opava
At the same time, from 15 August, the units of the 680 Pendolino class will be deployed on the existing InterCity trains with the numbers 502, 513, 514 and 519 “Opavan” running between Prague and Opava. The trains will now be operated in the SuperCity category and under the Pendolino name. The trains will provide all the services usual for SuperCity connections, which means e.g. the bistro carriage service, on-board infotainment portal, children’s cinema or a silent compartment section.
The sections with compulsory and optional seat reservation are unchanged. The 502 and 519 trains have a mandatory reservation policy on the entire Opava východ – Praha hl.n. route and back. As far as the 513 / 514 trains are concerned, they will continue to have compulsory reservations in the Ostrava-Svinov – Praha hl.n. section and back. Between the Opava východ and Ostrava Svinov railway stations, seat reservation is possible on the 513 / 514 trains, which means that the trains can be used without a seat reservation ticket and the ODIS travel documents can also be used on the board of such trains.
The train timetables remain unchanged. The trains will be operated as planned:
- SC 502 Opava východ (15:54) – Praha hl.n. (19:18): runs on Sundays and public holidays, except for 28 September and 27 October;
