The newly reconstructed premises in the passenger building of České dráhy at the Prague Masaryk Railway Station have been put into service for the staff members of the Police of the Czech Republic. The duty office has moved here from the original building, which will give way to the upcoming railway line from Václav Havel Airport within the framework of the railway station revitalisation. The new premises, which offer adequate facilities for police officers, have been renovated by České dráhy. Construction works began in March this year and were completed in the course of June.

“Masaryk Railway Station is a key railway junction in the capital city, through which thousands of passengers arriving by our regional trains from Kolín, Nymburk, Milovice, Kralupy nad Vltavou and other directions pass every day. I therefore consider the relocation of the duty office to new premises at the railway station and its possible expansion to be an important point which will increase safety in this area,” says Michal Krapinec, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of České dráhy.

“I am very glad that I had an opportunity to thank the Director of České dráhy for the fact that we found common grounds and today we can ceremonially open a new police duty office in the beautiful premises of Masaryk Railway Station. Thanks to this fact, police officers will have an adequate environment worthy of the twenty-first century standards when serving the citizens. At the same time, I believe that people who need our help will feel comfortable in these new premises,” stated Lieutenant General Martin Vondrášek, President of the Police of the Czech Republic.

“I welcome the fact that police officers in Prague 1 have obtained decent background facilities in the key location of Masaryk Railway Station. Their presence and the new premises will not only increase their effectiveness, but also the sense of security of citizens and visitors coming to our city district,” comments Terezie Radoměřská, Mayor of the City District of Prague 1.

The relocation of the local department of the Police of the Czech Republic is being prepared in connection with the renovation of Masaryk Railway Station from 2021. The original duty office was located in a low building along Na Florenci Street (between the new high-rise building known as "Masaryčka" and the seventh track at the station). České dráhy sold this building, together with the adjacent building, to Správa železnic (Railway Infrastructure Manager), which subsequently proceeded with the demolition of the building. This location will be the mouthing of the planned railway line from Václav Havel Airport.

The new duty office is situated in a building adjacent to Havlíčkova Street and Na Florenci Street. The newly renovated premises on the entire second floor and in the mezzanine on a floor area of 866 square metres serve the police officers. The modern service room has been adapted for specific operations according to the needs of the Police of the Czech Republic. During the construction works it was necessary to take into account the requirements of the conservationists, e.g. when fitting grilles or repairing historical elements inside the building (doors, floor coverings, etc.). The police officers also have new sanitary facilities for their use – such as kitchenettes and changing rooms.
The police officers from the local department at Masaryk Railway Station cover a part of Prague 1, so it is not just a “railway station” duty office. The unit serves for 16 police officers and its further development is expected in the future.

The renovation of the classicist building of the railway station, which is the property of České dráhy, started in 2012 and is being carried out in cooperation with the Penta company. The roofing of the main departure hall, including its facade to Havlíčkova Street, was comprehensively reconstructed. In 2016-2018, new paving was laid in the departure hall, and new toilets for passengers were installed in 2017. In 2019, new ticket offices were opened at the beginning of Platform 1. The renovation of the building, which houses the new police duty office, was completed in mid-2022, after which the preparation of design documentation according to the needs of the Police began.
