Since the beginning of last September, České dráhy, acting in cooperation with the Central Bohemian Region and the Capital City of Prague, has been increasing security measures on the board of its trains, especially in the morning and evening hours. This cooperation includes deployment of more than thirty security patrols to supervise security and order on trains running on the main railway lines. The patrols not only assist the train staff in dealing with situations associated with problematic passengers, but also supervise trains at turning stations.
“In September we had six security patrols available to oversee safety on the board of our trains, now there are more than thirty such patrols covering all the main railway lines where suburban trains are operated. For example, these patrols help train staff members with problematic passengers. Our common goal is to make passengers feel safe onboard the trains at any hour,” describes Jiří Ješeta, Member of the Board of Directors and Deputy Director General of ČD for Passenger Transport.
During more than four months of their operational activities, the security patrols have recorded a number of successful interventions, including their assistance provided in the process of exclusion of people from transport in cases when transport terms and conditions have been breached. The presence of the patrols has also contributed to a reduction in the number of incidents involving damage to trains and train set soiling.
“Together with České dráhy, we have done a good job. I believe that we have set up functional measures which are highly appreciated especially by passengers. We are in contact with ČD, we regularly receive information about all incidents and I am personally pleased that the security agency has succeeded in catching the sprayers as well,” says Petr Borecký, Member of the Council of the Central Bohemian Region entrusted with public transport services.
These measures form a part of the “Together for Clean Trains” campaign. The aim of this campaign is not only to prevent trains from being damaged and polluted, but also to make travelling more comfortable and safer in general. The campaign includes, for example, safety patrols at storage yards and depots. These patrols are also very successful because they have already managed to identify several sprayers.
