On 1 November, České dráhy will start the advance sale of tickets and reservations for train services in the new 2025 timetable, which will come into force on 15 December this year. The train offer is stable. The largest Czech carrier will dispatch approximately 2.4 million train services covering 119 million kilometres during the one-year validity of the timetable. Dozens of new units delivered during the year will be put into operation, and these new trainsets are equipped with modern technologies and offer, for example, an on-board Wi-Fi network, barrier-free travelling or air-conditioned space. This comfort will now be newly offered by hundreds of trains.
„České dráhy, acting in cooperation with the clients ordering public transport services, continues the trend set out in the field of modernisation of the rolling stock and extension of services. During the past year, we have taken over approximately one hundred new electric and diesel multiple units, which extend the offer of air-conditioned and barrier-free services on regional lines. We have also started to take over new ComfortJet trainsets, which will allow us to gradually improve other domestic fast-train services. For example, the train modernisation projects have added 439 wheelchair-accessible trains, 798 trains with an on-board Wi-Fi network and 1,430 trains with electrical sockets,“ informs Michal Krapinec, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of České dráhy.
České dráhy has introduced a total of 8,619 different trains in the 2025 timetable. Not all connections run daily. Some operate only on weekdays, others on weekends or only during the tourist season from spring to autumn. The average daily number of trains is therefore 6 605, while the number of trains running on working days is noticeably higher than on free days. On average, the national carrier’s trains travel around 327,000 kilometres per day.
„During the past year, we have worked hard to significantly increase the comfort and extend our services on the board of our trains. For example, there are 20% more trains with Wi-Fi internet access year-on-year and it is now available on more than half of all trains, including local trains. The number of trains with the ability to recharge travel electronics has increased by more than 50%, and we are also on about half of all train connections with this service. We are also adding 55 services with a children’s cinema. This will now be available on a quarter of all long-distance services. Eighty per cent of our trains will be wheelchair accessible in the new timetable,“ states Jiří Ješeta, Member of the Board of Directors and Deputy Director General of České dráhy for Passenger Transport.
Better trainsets in both regional and long-distance transport
Thanks to this year’s deliveries of new trains, older regional trains have been replaced in the course of the year with modern RegioPanter and RegioFox units. Transport on dozens of regional lines all over the Czech Republic is now provided by modern wheelchair accessible and air-conditioned trains.
Further improvements will also be implemented for long-distance trains, including fast trains. After a series of first substantial repairs and the installation of the ETCS system on InterPanter units, wheelchair accessible air-conditioned electric multiple units will return to most Svitava services. International services from Prague to Germany known as Berliner will be operated by new ComfortJet units. Replacement of the existing trainsets should be completed on this line by the summer and then ComfortJets should start to appear on other planned lines, for example on EuroCity Metropolitan services. The newly delivered non-traction ComfortJet units will also be used on selected fast InterCity Ostravan services.
More modern, air-conditioned carriages with the possibility of powering travel electronics and with on-board Wi-Fi network (approximately 75% of the capacity of the core trainset) will be on the Rožmberk, Jihlava and Bezdrev Plzeň – České Budějovice – Jihlava – Brno fast trains. Similar improvements will also be carried out on the Labe Praha – Děčín fast trains. These newly deployed carriages have been moved from the EuroCity international trains.
