Already six modern RegioFox diesel multiple units of the Prague Integrated Transport (PID) system carry passengers on the railway lines in the Central Bohemian Region. The units with numbers 004, 005, 008, 018, 019 and 020 carry passengers on the board of passenger trains on the Rakovník – Beroun and Beroun – Rudná u Prahy – Prague railway line. The regular operation of the Fox trainsets, as the two-cell diesel units are popularly called, follows up to the trial operation which was organised in the Central Bohemian Region from last year and finished in June after the approval of the new type of trains. By the end of 2026, a total of 38 new Fox trainsets will be deployed on the railway lines mainly in the western part of the Region.

“Thanks to our cooperation with the Central Bohemian Region, we are extending wheelchair-accessible travelling in the Region and we will offer our customers significantly higher comfort of travelling. The RegioFox trainsets are equipped with on-board Wi-Fi, USB connectors and 230 V sockets for power supply of their travel electronics, some seats have tables on which it is possible to place e.g. a laptop, and the interior of the trainsets is air-conditioned. In addition, the train’s high-quality bogie suspension system offers a much quieter and more comfortable ride than the outdated diesel rail cars,” says Michal Krapinec, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of České dráhy, about the new RegioFox diesel multiple units.

“Over the course of three years, a total of 38 new RegioFox vehicles will be deployed in the Central Bohemian Region, which are to significantly rejuvenate the rolling stock in this Region. Its extensive modernisation is the result of an amendment extending the existing contract with České dráhy on regional lines for 5 years, which was unanimously approved at the March meeting of the representatives of the Central Bohemian Region,” adds Petr Borecký, Member of the Council of the Regional Authority of the Central Bohemian Region, in Charge of Transport.

“We want as many people as possible to use train transport for their daily commuting to Prague. That is why it is important that such trains have sufficient capacity and that passengers have everything they need. This means more space, comfort and all the modern gadgets. The new RegioFox diesel multiple units have, of course, an air conditioning system, enough space for prams and bikes, wheelchair access, functioning Wi-Fi system, power sockets or USB connectors,” stressed Zdeněk Hřib, First Deputy Mayor of the Capital City of Prague, for the area of transport.

“The RegioFox diesel multiple units are gradually replacing the outdated vehicles of the 809, 810 or 814 Classes in Central Bohemia and elsewhere. We have already finished their trial operation in the Central Bohemian Region. The vehicles which passed the trial operation have gone to Poland for final adjustments according to the approved type and we have currently deployed six RegioFox trainsets in their place. They run on the railway line from Prague via Rudná u Prahy to Beroun and from Beroun to Rakovník, where they are taken care of in the local depot,” states Jiří Ješeta, Member of the Board of Directors and Deputy Director General of České dráhy for Passenger Transport, adding: “In addition to the RegioFox units, in the coming years we will also deploy the well-proven German-origin Regio-Shuttle RS1 rail cars, which we operate in the Czech Republic under the trade name ‘RegioSpider’. A total of 34 of them will be heading for the railway lines of the Central Bohemian Region.”

The RegioFox diesel multiple units are wheelchair accessible, air-conditioned trains equipped with a wide range of services for comfortable travelling to work, school or leisure activities. On-board Wi-Fi network, power sockets and USB connectors for charging travel electronics, compartments for large luggage including prams and bicycles or an audiovisual information system are all standard features there. The trains are equipped with Rolls-Royce engines capable of using the latest generation of environment-friendly HVO fuels, making them some of the most environment-friendly diesel trains in Europe.

České dráhy has ordered a total of 106 RegioFox units from the Poland-based company “PESA”. After their delivery from the manufacturer, they are gradually being put into operation on railway lines not only in Prague and Central Bohemia, but also in the Hradec Králové, South Bohemian, Pardubice, Pilsen and Vysočina (Highlands) Regions.
