Visitors to the largest railway museum in the Czech Republic equipped with operating vehicles will be attracted by a rich programme this year as well. In addition to special thematic weekends, there are planned rides of historical vehicles to various locations around Lužná u Rakovníka and a number of unique exhibits ranging from real vehicles to model railways and demonstrations of various railway technologies from locomotives to passenger carriages, freight wagons and signalling equipment or even industrial rail systems. This year, the museum will be opened to the public for the first time on Saturday, April 27.

ČD Nostalgia has also prepared a rich programme of historical vehicle rides across the Czech Republic.

“We have prepared several novelties for visitors coming to the museum this year. I would like to mention, for example, a much larger and more interesting circuit for the industrial miniature railway in our centre, which is very popular with families with children. For this year we have prepared also several thematic weekends, which are very attractive for visitors. On the weekend of 11 and 12 May, it will be the Steam Weekend, on 17 May, within the framework of the Museum Night project, it will be possible to visit the museum also in the evening hours and to experience the exceptional atmosphere in the depot in the early evening, on the weekend of 20 and 21 July we are preparing a meeting of draisines, for 17 and 18 August we have prepared a Model Weekend, where not only railway modellers will present themselves, and on 5 and 6 October we invite all fans of diesel locomotives to the Meeting of Hector Locomotives. The museum will close its gates on 27 October. As a novelty, we are preparing St. Nicholas train rides in the Museum surroundings on 7 December,” says Marek Plochý, Director of the Centre of Historical Vehicles of České dráhy, presenting the most interesting events of the museum season.

Besides, various nostalgic journeys from the České dráhy’s Museum are prepared for a number of weekends, e.g. on 22 June a special train will set out on a journey to Bochov, on 6 July a steam train will run along the Berounka valley to Nižbor and on 7 July a steam train will set off on the railway line to Kolešovice. These journeys will be repeated also on 3 and 4 August. On 9 and 23 July, and then also on 6 and 20 August, there will be rides of the historical rail car train to Kralovice. Special nostalgic trains to the depositary of the National Technical Museum in Chomutov are also prepared every Wednesday during the summer holiday season, i.e. throughout July and August. Thanks to this offer, it is therefore possible to see, in one day, two of the most interesting railway exhibitions in our country and to enjoy a ride on the board of a historical rail car as a special bonus.

Čtyřkolák

ČD Nostalgia in regions

This year, České dráhy and its partners have also prepared a number of nostalgic rides in various parts of Bohemia and Moravia. The rides of historical rail cars on the local Břeclav – Lednice railway line are very traditional. They will run on weekends and holidays from the beginning of May until the end of September. There are also prepared rides of the steam locomotive known as “Čtyřkolák” (Four-wheeled Engine”) in Prague and its surroundings. Traditional trips by steam trains to Dobříš are prepared (on 4 May and 12 October) and those by steam trains along the Sázava river are planned as well (on 31 March, 5 May and 13 October). The Rožnov Steam Express will also be in operation and other rides are planned on the occasion of various regional events and projects. The highlight of the season will certainly be the National Railway Day in Česká Třebová on 21 and 22 September.

The offer of nostalgic rides is continuously updated and supplemented on the www.cdnostalgie.cz website. There are also details concerning a visit to the Railway Museum in Lužná u Rakovníka available on the website.
